Travel to Milan, Italy.

Friday, September 30th, 2011

Expedia.com

Article by TJ Tierney

Situated in the North of Italy, Milan is the largest city in the province of Lombardy and second largest city in Italy.

Milan is the business hub of Italy and a very busy city to visit at any time of year.

Home to the Last Supper, by Leonardo da Vinci, Milan has a rich history in art and has some of the most priceless works of art on display in its galleries. The art galleries of Milan also reflect the history of the city, but be advised, if you do plan to visit some of the galleries book in advance.

Milan’s main attraction, The Duomo is the third largest church in the world, and took nearly 450 years to build. The construction of the Duomo began in 1386 and was completed in 1805 by Napoleon. This fabulous Gothic style church is a must see for any tourist.

Built in 1386 the Castello Sforzesco is a massive fortress located in the centre of Milan. The Sforza has many great museums and hosts the work of many great artists including Michelangelo.

For the sporting fans a visit to the Meazza Stadium, better known as the San Siro should be rewarding. This is one of the best football stadiums in Italy. Daily visits to the San Siro are available with access to the stadium and changing rooms.

The winter months in Milan can be extremely cold, while the summers are very hot and humid.

A trip north to the Alps or to the lake region is very advisable, and should be most memorable. The Italian rail system is excellent, and daily trips to the lakes should not take too long. Hotel prices vary during the year – winter being an excellent time to visit.

Also known as one of the main fashion capitals of Italy, Milan hosts some of the best fashion designers in the world. Most of the main shopping outlets are located near the city centre. Expect very large crowds during the sales, which attract people from all over Europe.

Milan is well suited to cater for the needs of travellers. From the moment you arrive you will be met with an excellent transport system, both efficient and economical. Avoid travelling through the streets of Milan by car if possible – traffic can be chaotic.

Where possible it’s best to use the public transport system. If you must use a taxi be very careful, use official taxis, which are white or yellow in colour. These are a lot cheaper than the private cab who will charge you double the price.

Milan is a cosmopolitan city and offers a wide range of restaurants. Prices vary considerably from place to place. Restaurants are very crowded at weekends so book in advance where possible. Menus and prices are usually posted outside restaurants – its also standard to leave a small tip.

The main tourist season starts in Milan during the summer months, but this doesn’t mean that cheap accommodation is available during the off-season. Milan is a very busy city all year round and hotel prices can be expensive.

Advantages of Travelling in The Off-Peak Seasons

Sunday, September 25th, 2011

Expedia.com

If you love travelling, you probably already know that the costs of travelling add up fast. But there is something clever you can do in order to keep the costs down, and that is to travel during the off-peak seasons.

Travelling in the off-peak seasons have a lot of advantages:

Airfare is cheaper

Accommodation is cheaper and also easier to get on short notice.

Some restaurants might be cheaper, so eating out gets cheaper too.

The destination you go to will be less crowded.

There will be less beggars, sellers and other people who bother you while you are there, since these people mostly tend to come to touristy areas during the peaks of the tourist season.

Many cultural events for the locals are held during off-peak seasons, while real and genuine events can be harder to find during the peak seasons. Examples of this is operas and other concerts that are held in Europe during the winter, while most locals in Spain or France tend to flee their homes when they know that the tourists are coming, so if you visit Spain or France in the summer, you might only be able to find events specifically designed for tourists.

What you need to keep in mind if you are considering travelling in the off-peak seasons is that the off-peak seasons are not the same all over the world. Summer and spring are usually the most popular tourist seasons all over the world, but while Europe and North America have spring and summer during May, June, July and August, places like Australia or the south of South America have summer during December, January and February.

Some places also get very touristy around specific holidays (the north of Finland has a huge tourist boom around Christmas, because they have a Santa Claus Land there, for instance).

So always read up on your destination in order to know when the peaks and off-peaks are in that specific location!

Travel To Your Destination in Europe

Friday, September 23rd, 2011

Expedia.com

Article by Nick Nikolis

If you are booking a trip to Europe you will need a great hotel. Find a hotel that treats you well, has luxuries offered if you choose to use them such as a spa and indoor pool, a clean hotel, friendly hotel, and a hotel that will not break the bank. Or book an apartment or villa with the same top notch qualities.

Destination Europe may be the world’s second smallest continent but it contains in a whole load of several countries, each of them unique, and each one having that ‘special something’ that makes them one of the best holiday destination in the world.

Europe possesses 48 countries in total; variety in Europe is almost unparalleled, with a great mix of languages, foods, climates landscapes, religion and traditions. Sun yourself on Greece’s beaches, snuggle up in a log cabin in Norway, ski the Alps in Switzerland, eat pasta in Italy, drink vodka in Russia, dance salsa in Spain or visit Santa in Lapland.

Enjoy traveling Europe. Maybe your destination is Cyprus. Cyprus is just like the postcard you envision. Crystal blue water of the Mediterranean Sea, soft sand, and lush meadows. All of this for you to sit back and just take in. You and your family may want to explore Cyprus. Or perhaps you and your spouse or significant other wants to get away for a romantic trip.

If your destination is Greece you can try many of the mouth watering Greek foods offered. Literally eat your way through Greece. Bring your camera to take photos of the rich history Greece has to offer. Your children will learn a lot by traveling with you. Or you and your loved one can walk the romantic streets of Greece together and enjoy each other’s company. Visions of brilliant sunsets reflecting off of the dark blue water and a glass of wine to relax and enjoy every single moment. Get lost in Greece’s pleasures.

Maybe you are going to the Greek Islands for your vacation. You can stay on one island or enjoy traveling from island to island to see as much as you are able. Take a sailboat or a yacht. Find out what each Greek Island has to offer. It will be educational, interesting and fun to meet the island people. Try different menus from each island. You will not find any bluer waters than on the Greek Islands.

Be treated the way you deserve to especially on your vacation travels. Create memories to last a lifetime. Escape now.

Best Cities to Visit in Europe

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

Expedia.com

Which are the best cities to visit in Europe? There are a few possibilities to consider. However, those of western Europe do tend to be the best. Whilst open to debate, here are some suggestions.

Paris (France)

The city of Paris undoubtedly has some great sites. The Eiffel Tower, along with Louvre art collections are worth a trip. Aside from this, you may consider the Sacre Coeur. In addition, there are many other entertainment venues.

Barcelona (Spain)

In Spain, the city of Barcelona is on the Mediterranean coast. As such, it has beaches to bathe. Further to this, the Sagrada Familia cathedral, Gaudi architecture and opera are note-able. The football club of Barcelona, also has a great football team and there are tours around the stadium alongside the club museum.

Munich (Germany)

The city of Munich has fine beer festivals, such as those found at beer gardens during the summer. The Residenz is also one notable site of the city. Munich also has great museums, which are a good trip. So for this, Munich is a recommended visit.

Rome (Italy)

In the city of Rome you will find St Peter’s cathedral, of the Vatican. In addition to this, Vatican museums are also worthy of note.

Venice (Italy)

North of Rome I include the city of Venice for its unique canals (Grand Canal) and gondolas. Aside from this, the city has such sites as St. Marks, Santa Maria della and Doge’s Palace. Along with Rome, Venice is a good trip.

Vienna (Austria)

Further east the Austrian city of Vienna is worth a trip. Vienna has the Hofburg, and notable opera such as the state opera house. The Prater funfair with Ferris Wheel, is certainly another great Vienna attraction.

Bern (Switzerland)

The Swiss capital of Bern is not the largest city mentioned here. However, in Bern the old town is a world heritage site. The Alps are not too far off either. In addition, other landmarks like the clock tower, and cathedral, put Bern on the map.

Lisbon (Portugal)

For golf, the golf resorts of Lisboa are amongst the best. The city actually won golf destination of the year in Europe. Aside from this, like Barcelona Lisbon is a coastal city with beaches as found at Cascais resort. The Oceanario de Lisboa is a large Oceanarium, with aquarium, and certainly is worth noting. Along with Barcelona, Lisbon is the best city of the Iberian Peninsula.

Of course, there are a good few others. However, these cities undoubtedly provide some great sites and likewise are popular for tourists. So they are amongst the best.

Things To Do On Holiday In Sweden

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

Expedia.com

Travellers to Sweden would have no trouble finding things to do. It is a culturally rich and progressive nation that boasts of a very high standard of living. There are some great holiday chalets and self catering holiday apartments available to rent direct from their owners in Sweden.

Many tourists go on vacation to Stockholm and stay in self catering apartments. When there they can visit the Vasa museum. This museum in Stockholm houses the fruits of some ground breaking labour, the 17th century warship Vasa. The ship sunk during its maiden voyage in 1628, and was recovered in 1961. The resurrected skeletons and relics remain the only existing example of ship architecture from the period.

Stockholm, Sweden’s capital city houses numerous museums, aside from the Vasa museum, you can check out the Nordic Museum, Museum of Natural History and Museum of Modern Art. The city is peppered with examples of historical architecture, like Riddarholmskyrkan, which is the oldest building in Stockholm, pretty much every district and neighbourhood in the city has its own unique charm and character. Families on vacation can rent self catering accommodation in Stockholm.

Gothenburg is the largest port in Scandinavia; about a million people live here and there is a plethora of attractions to keep the tourists busy. Take a leisurely saunter in the scenic Castle Wood Park, listen to a wide genre of music from Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, art enthusiasts can head over to the Museum of Art. Sweden features a stunning expanse of rugged beauty which is yet to be tarnished by commercialism, these makes for perfect hiking spots.

Lovers of the outdoors may rent a holiday cottage or log cabin and use them as a base to explore the beautiful countryside. The law provides rights of access for anyone, provided they respect the local culture and nature. Sweden comprises of over 24,000 islands and 100,000 lakes, so it’s not much of a surprise that boating is an integral part of Swedish life. Most tours take you on a sightseeing trip around the Swedish archipelago. The Gota Canal is a favourite tourist haunt but there are loads of other places that interest the water-craft bound traveller.

Stop by the Linkoping Cathedral in Ostergotland to treat yourself to some splendid Gothic architecture. This massive cathedral is the burial site of a 15th century bishop, and is embellished with some priceless paintings which were gifted by King John III. Skiing enthusiasts would find no dearth for fun as Sweden offers some of the finest locales for the sport. There are some great ski chalets available to rent and many families rent them while on vacation. Hemavan, in Lapland is a great ski precinct with its vast open areas and mountains. Arefjallen resort is said to be the world’s largest with a ski run of more than a hundred kilometers, the ski race in April draws hundreds every year. Riksgransen in the extreme north is famed for its snowboarding championships and non-stop skiing during the spring. During the spring it seems the sun never goes below the horizon, perfectly symbolizing the spirit of this country where the fun never seems to end.

Many families take a family holiday to Sweden and stay in self catering holiday accommodation. Sweden has a great selection of self catering holiday apartments in the city areas. There are also some beautiful log cabins and ski chalets available to rent in the mountainous areas of Sweden. Many families come back to Sweden year after year to spend there vacations and stay in a holiday home.

Travel Deals To Europe – The 4 Cheapest Ways To Get From The Us To Europe And Get Cheap Hotels

Monday, September 19th, 2011

Expedia.com

Article by Dani Alonso

Travel deals to US and from US to Europe is a hot topic. The Atlantic is one of the most competitive zones around the earth, possibly the second one after European flights, which are the lowest on the globe. But hey, this does not mean it will be easy for you to locate these opportunities. My intention is to put things a bit easier and provide you with the 4 best ways to cross from Europe to America and vice versa, and at same time getting the opportunity to enjoy nearly free accommodation in some cases. Let’s take a look!

1st Travel Deal:

Zoom Airlines is the lowest of the travel deals to Europe you can find in the “normal way”. 343 Euros is their lowest price to cross the little paddle. And by normal way I mean the lowest retail price available, the best standard conditions airfare you can ever find. Remember to use Ryanair to reach London from wherever you are.

2nd Travel Deal (only departing from Europe):

This one is only for Europeans. OK, I’m from Spain, I just couldn’t avoid it. And yeah, I am aware that the title was “Travel Deals to Europe”! In any case, Icelandair is something you can’t forget looking at. Right now they have a special offer in which you can depart from London, stay two completely free nights with breakfast included in an hotel in Iceland, and then depart to the US. The whole combination has the same price as it will have for some of the lowest fares carriers to just cross the Atlantic, around 350 Euros (0) Keep an eye on them, if this deal has expired, more of them will come soon. Don’t ask. I just know it.

3rd Travel Deal (mainly for Americans):

Now it’s time again for you guys! And in fact this is a double or even triple option for travel deals to Europe. SkyAuction and Priceline are two of the bidding engines where you can get discounts usually of 40%. We Europeans can use the engine to find good hotel deals, but all flights that appear there are only departing from the US. In any case, combining SkyAuction with an internet shopping mall that allows you to book from SkyAuction, will give you the reduced airfare prices plus almost free accommodation in more than 600 locations worldwide. Down below you will see the links to look at it.

4th Travel Deal (mainly for Americans):

The best travel deals to Europe keep being these ones, and it is by using companies that, after getting their services, they offer travel certificates to you. Don’t imagine you need to spend a lot in buying, as most of the time the products this companies offer are between and 0 and can be pretty interesting and useful. The price of the trip will not be 0, but normally you will be saving between a 70% and a 95% of the total cost involved with the trip. You can find this kind of offer either for hotels and for flights. In the links below you will also find some good places to look at.

Sincerely, this 4 methods to travel from the US to Europe are the best I have found during all the time I have spent looking for the best ways for my customers to cross the Atlantic. Best kept secrets revealed for free? Well, let’s say that sometimes I wake up in a good mood!

To find out more about the 3rd Method, take a look at:Free Hotels

To find out more about the 4th Method, take a look at:Travel Industry Secrets
